10 ways to welcome Spring, SA style

Home Leisure September 30, 2025

There’s nothing like springtime in SA, especially after a cold winter. We splash on the sunscreen, slip on our slops and head out for time in the sun. Whether you’re chilling at home or taking a road trip, there’s so much to do, see and enjoy in the upcoming months. There’s plenty to cover and plenty of cover to match. So, let’s kick off with spring cleaning.

1. Hit refresh on your home

Go through your home and collect all the items you no longer want. Decide which items can be donated and which items to sell. At the same time, take note of new items you’ve bought in the last year. Especially high value ones like lounge suites, smart appliances, electronics and other devices. Check your home contents cover and update the sum insured to avoid being underinsured.

2. Get road trip ready

When it comes to travelling around SA, the journey is often as beautiful as the destination. From the glorious Garden Route and the marvellous Midlands to sensational sea views and wonderful wildlife. And before setting off, you’ll have checked your tyre pressure, filled up on petrol and stocked up on snacks. But have you checked that your car is properly covered? Check these out…

3. Bring and Braai

There’s nothing like a braai to bring people together, whether it’s a family gathering, a birthday party, a Sunday lunch or a catch-up with friends. The patio or under the lapa becomes the meeting place, and if you have a pool at home, then cooling off in the water is definitely part of the fun!

Cover match: buildings (this includes cover for outbuildings like a lapa and your pool equipment), home contents (for your outdoor furniture, your entertainment system and braai)

4. Picnic in the Park

Pack some sarmies and your sunscreen and head off to one of the many beautiful parks around the country. Many of these are kitted out with jungle gyms for the kids and have plenty of trees so you can find the perfect shady spot. Just check the weather forecast to avoid being caught in a sudden downpour. Also do some research on the safety aspect of the park you want to visit before deciding on a destination.

5. Summertime safari

SA is known for its incredible wildlife. From massive national parks to smaller safari lodges, we really are spoilt for choice when it comes to animal spotting. Whether you’ve got a 4x4 that can handle the tough terrain, or take smoother roads your car can handle, there’s plenty to see – from the Big 5 to the brilliant birdlife.

6. Support local

If you spend any time on Instagram or TikTok, you’ll know there are hundreds of different markets throughout the country. Some daily, others on weekends only, and some are season or holiday specific. There’s something for everyone, with a wide variety of food, arts and crafts, and often live music too. So, drop a pin in your group chat and make a day of it.

7. Go golfing

Golf is part of our culture, with numerous incredible golf courses throughout SA. Even if you’re not a golfer, there’s something for everyone. Most courses offer fantastic restaurants, resorts and kid-friendly spaces like play areas and putt putt courses.

8. Wake up to water sports

From the glorious beaches on our coastline to the many amazing lakes, rivers and dams throughout SA, water sports enthusiasts are spoilt for choice. Whether it’s jet-skiing, surfing, canoeing or yachting, there’s nothing like spending time on the water, in hot weather.

9. Padel away

Padel has taken SA by storm, with new courts popping up all the time. It’s a great way to socialise and stay fit. Like golf courses, padel courts often come with coffee shops or restaurants, so you can enjoy a coffee or a quick bite too. Just a heads up, the gear can get pricey, so make sure yours is covered for theft or damage.

Cover match: portable possessions (sports gear must be specified)

10.  Run for fun and for good

Another great way to enjoy the warmer weather is to join a local organised walk or run.  These events happen around SA most weekends, for a good cause. Many walks are also dog-friendly so you can take your pup along too!

However you enjoy the season – from braais to padel, markets to golf – do it your way, knowing we’ve got your spring covered.
