Have you ever heard this?

“Are we there yet?” “I’m bored!” “Can we stop? I need the bathroom again…”

Yes? Then you know how restless and agitated kids can get in a car after an extended period of time.

While you may have planned the perfect road trip this holiday season from accommodation to a full itinerary, you must ask yourself this question “Did I prepare the car games?” if not… you have come to the right place.

Remember, keeping the kids busy allows you to focus on driving right – we know you’ll have a wonderful holiday, but we want you back safe and sound.

Here are 10 Road trip games for kids this holiday season:

1. Memory Game

   One person starts the game with “I’m going on a trip and I’m going to pack…”. The second person must then repeat what the first person said while adding another item.
   
   

   Example:

   Person 1: I’m going on a trip and I’m going to pack… blankets.
   Person 2: I’m going on a trip and I’m going to pack… blankets and sunglasses.
   Person 3: I’m going on a trip and I’m going to pack… blankets, sunglasses and hats.

    

2. Scavenger Hunt

   Before your trip, type up a list of items that you know the kids will see along the way. When they see an item from the list, they tick it off, whoever ticks off the most items wins.

    

3. Count it

   Select an object or animal, that the kids can count on the road.

    

   Example:

   Road signs, convertible cars, horses etc

    

4. Grow the story

   One passenger starts a story and the next passenger must continue where the previous left off. They can make it as far-fetched as possible. Use your imagination – anything goes.
   
   

5. I spy with my little eye

   One person starts the game by saying, “I spy with my little eye something beginning with…” and then says a letter of the alphabet. The other players then try and guess what the object is.

    

6. Don’t Say It

   At the start of the road trip select 5 words that the kids are not allowed to say the entire journey. If a person says one of those words, they gain a point. The person with the least points at the end of the road trip is the winner.

    

7. Who Am I?

   One player thinks of a person or animal. The others need to ask questions in order to guess what the player is thinking.

    

   Example:

   How many legs does it have?

   Can it speak?

    

8. It’s A Joke!

   Everyone must tell what they think is their funniest joke - this should be fun.

    

9. Alphabet Race

   The kids must have alphabets written down, when they spot something, they write it down next to the corresponding letter. First person to finish the whole alphabet wins.

    

10. Singalong

    What’s a road trip without a singalong? Pick a family favourite or the kids’ favourite and let them sing to their heart’s content.
