Productivity Apps for 2015

Tuesday, November 18, 2014

There’s no doubt that technology has made our lives easier. We’ve come a long way since the first Personal Computer, as we know it today, in the 1970s to the Smartphones we all carry around with us today. Twenty years ago it would have been absurd to even imagine that one day most of us would have access to the internet, a telephone, a camera, an instant messaging service and so much more, all rolled into one little device that we keep in our pockets and carry around with us.

The Smartphones that we use today have very little in common with the traditional cell phones from the 1990s and before. Sure, all mobile phones can call and send messages but Android and iOS devices closer resemble mini computers than just plain phones, you can download apps and games and browse the internet, all in the palm of your hand,

Aside from entertainment and gaming, there are also applications that can actually assist you in being more productive at work and your everyday life. We looked around and found a semi-general consensus on what the best productivity apps available in South Africa (on both iOS and Android and for Free!) are. These are in no specific order.

  1. [email protected]
This app streams music, which enhances concentration, creativity and productivity, straight to your phone. All the tracks are instrumental and you can choose between either classical, up tempo, focus spa, cinematic and ambient.

  2. Any.Do
Any.Do is an award-winning app that makes you truly mindful of your to-do-list as you easily plan and sync all your daily tasks with a click of a button.

  3. EasilyDo
Having this, award-winning, app is like having a personal assistant. Amongst other things, it adds contacts, sends birthday messages and checks the weather for you. Less worry, less stress.

This is the easiest way to track your expenses; simply take a picture of your receipt and receive and the app creates an expenses report, all by itself.

  5. Ookla Sppedtest
Does it feel like you’re not getting the internet speed that you are paying for? No problem, test it with this nifty app.

  6. Qikshare
This app helps you share files without having to use pesky cables! Share photos, videos, files, and much more, between iOS, Android and desktop!

  7. LastPass
The days of trying to remember every password for every login are over. LastPass stores all your passwords and makes them accessible from any mobile device or computer.

  8. Yahoo Weather
Get accurate weather forecasts accompanied by beautiful images.

  9. Sunrise
Sunrise is a gorgeous calendar app to make your life easier. This app is compatible with Google Calendar, iCloud and Exchange. It can be connected to LinkedIn so you can see the profiles of people you have meetings with and you can also tag the locations of events.

  10. Slack
This nifty app spells the end for team communication via tedious email conversations. Converse with your colleagues in a more fun and productive way.

Get these apps, who knows, maybe 2015 will be the year where you get everything done.
