In a world where technological advances are made every day, it is imperative that we invest in our youth, giving them the tools to actively participate in these developments in order to make our mark on the world.
So says Dial Direct spokesperson, Bradley Du Chenne, when asked why Dial Direct had selected the Thandulwazi Trust as its Corporate Social Investment initiative
Innovations in our own field, such as our comprehensive online management tool and SA’s favourite insurance rewards programme, have made us realise that these advances hinge on not only the ingenuity of our youngsters but also on their mathematical and scientific skills and knowledge.
“Learners in South Africa are at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to developing these skills. Basic necessities for learning such as adequate classrooms, equipment and text books, are few and far between,” says Du Chenne, “which is where institutions such as the Thandalwazi Trust together with Dial Direct can bridge the gap.”
Every Saturday hundreds of grade 10, 11, and 12 learners gather at St Stithians College to participate in the Thandulwazi Academy Classes. These learners, from rural or underprivileged schools around Johannesburg, then have a chance to experience the miracles of science first hand, to play with algebraic computations, and to master the English language.
Through Dial Direct’s assistance, the practicality of learning can be seen and experienced first hand by learners from underprivileged backgrounds across Gauteng.
And at a ground roots level, Dial Direct staff members will also be living this brand ethic by personally giving back. They will attend the Saturday School on a regular basis and help out with tutoring, homework and even create memorable teaching moments.
“The personal satisfaction of helping the children to pass their exams is immensely rewarding, and will create lasting memories for both the learner and the staff members,” says Du Chenne.
