Saving time - the trend of 2010

In this day and age, time is as precious a commodity as money which is why 2010 has been coined the year of ‘less yada yada and more ching ching’.

Bradley Du Chenne, spokesperson for Dial Direct Insurance has noticed that there has been an increase in insurance claims for home related accidents and says that by employing vigilance and simple time and motion exercises, time can be maximised and needless accidents caused by hasty actions, can be avoided.

Time and motion studies were originally implemented in 1957 to improve efficiency in the workplace. By summing up the correct time it should take to complete a task, time and motion studies can also aid in preventing critical injuries at work.

The simple sum of time versus motion can now be brought into the home to ensure that the maximum output is adhered to without haste.

“Simple everyday occurrences such as losing keys, oversleeping and inefficient house work all affect and contribute to the speed at which people drive, work and conduct themselves at home. Time and motion is essentially good life management and following simple efficiency and vigilance tips, untimely mishaps can easily be avoided,” says Du Chenne.

Dial Direct offers the following time saving tips:

  • Draw up a list of things that take the most time and are the most cumbersome in your everyday life.
  • Arrange these things in order of priority.
  • Document the amount of time each task takes.
  • Adhere to tasks in order of priority.
  • Ensure that you are able to find things in the dark and that you have a dedicated place for everything. For example have a key hook for car keys.
  • Set your alarm to ring 10 minutes earlier.
  • Pre-pack your lunch whilst making dinner.
  • Wash dishes as you go.
  • Fill up with petrol on the weekends.
  • Prepare meals for the week on a Sunday evening.
  • Pay all monthly bills on the first day of the month.
  • Ensure the house is always stocked with spare light bulbs and batteries.
  • Freeze bread and milk to avoid a last minute dash to the shops.
